Eversheds Sutherland Adopts Compose by Casetext, Strengthens Commitment to Innovation in Legal Services

Eversheds Sutherland’s clients will benefit from efficiencies introduced by litigation automation

San Francisco, CA — Casetext today announces a new partnership with global top 10 law practice, Eversheds Sutherland (US) LLP, on the latest breakthrough in litigation automation, Compose. This is Eversheds Sutherland’s latest initiative to increase efficiency for their clients while bolstering the high-quality work-product that has come to be expected from their attorneys.

Compose is litigation automation technology that empowers firms like Eversheds Sutherland to provide their clients with better services in less time. Compose takes the historically complicated and time-consuming process of drafting briefs and turns it into a streamlined, efficient process, ultimately leading to higher-quality work product.

To draft a brief with Compose, the attorney enters basic information about the brief, and Compose provides the available arguments and applicable legal standards, which the attorney can add with a click. The attorney can then use Parallel Search, a breakthrough new search technology developed by Casetext, which applies a transformer-based neural language model (the latest technique in NLP) to automate the process of finding legal precedent to support the attorney’s argument. Compose’s expansive argument list and cutting-edge search technology offer firms like Eversheds Sutherland a competitive advantage over firms that aren’t embracing newer automation technologies.

“After automation, what’s left are the most interesting, substantive, strategic parts of legal practice, without the drudgery, the expense, and the inefficiency,” says Jake Heller, Casetext CEO and co-founder. “We’re making space for lawyers to make new arguments, pursue new strategies, and experiment with new business models. But what’s maybe most exciting about this, and any truly innovative technology, is that we don’t know exactly what the impacts will be. Automation allows for imagination.”

Robert Owen, litigation partner at Eversheds Sutherland, says, “We’re proud to be one of the world’s most technologically innovative litigation practices, and we’re excited to partner with Casetext to put the most innovative brief-writing technology into our litigators’ hands.”
